Alert Labs sees big opportunity under new owner

KITCHENER — Technology firm Alert Labs has been acquired by Watsco, Inc., a U.S.-based heating, air conditioning and refrigeration distributor serving more than 250,000 contractors.

"Having the support of an organization like Watsco gives us the funding to be able to accelerate some of our product development," said Alert Labs co-founder and chief operating officer Ruth Casselman. "The word 'accelerate' almost seems too small for the opportunity in front of us."

Founded in 2015, Kitchener-based Alert designs and makes products that monitor building systems in homes and businesses. Its initial products, the Flowie and Floodie sensors, measure water use and alert customers to problems such as floods and leaks. Sumpie, a predictive sump pump sensor, is coming to the market this fall.
