Sci Innovation Competition 2019

This Spring, Shenzhen will host the third China (Shenzhen) Innovation & Entrepreneurship International Competition - Sci Innovation Competition 2019. Also known as the 'Global Olympics of Innovation', the competition is open to exceptional entrepreneurs and companies. It promotes the integration of human resources, technology, capital, attracting more overseas entrepreneurs to expand their business in Shenzhen.
Benton Leong, along with other GTAN Angels, has been helping the companies as they prepare to pitch. Warm up pitches and info sessions for the 2019 competition will be held in Toronto, Ottawa, Waterloo and Montreal. The final competitions will take place at Toronto City Hall on March 23, 2019 and IEIC China in Shenzhen from April 9-12, 2019.
Companies at all stages are welcome to apply if their focus falls on one or more of the eight competition sectors: Biology & Life Science, Material & Energy (Cleantech), Advanced Manufacturing, Electronics, Information Technology, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Fintech.
As the competition grows, so does its influence. The Sci Innovation Competition has seen incredible growth since its inception three years ago. Starting in 2017, the competition had 8 divisions totalling 1.76 million in cash rewards (CAD) with up to $240,000 going to the top winner. The competition hosted a venture capital pool amounting up to $135 million.
The following year, in 2018, the competition had 9 divisions with winners receiving $2.05 million in cash rewards. The competition was host to a venture capital pool amounting up to $4 billion.
This year, the 2019 competition will have 10 divisions across the world with $2.2 million to be awarded to the winners. The competition will set an impressive record with a venture capital pool amounting up to $4.8 billion.
